How to verify a CTP credential, and spot a fake

Anyone can write a credential on a CV. If you are hiring or working with someone who claims to hold an IICTP CTP®, here is how to check.

Check it yourself

  1. Ask for the holder’s name and credential ID.
  2. Go to the IICTP public registry by typing the address yourself.
  3. Search the record and compare the holder, credential and status with the claim.
  4. A credential that has lapsed or been withdrawn will show that in its status.

Warning signs

  • A certificate image that cannot be found in the registry.
  • A lookup page hosted anywhere other than iictp.org.
  • An ID format that does not match the registry’s.
  • Pressure to skip verification.

What the registry does not tell you

A record confirms that IICTP issued the credential. It does not tell you how well someone performs. IICTP is a new independent body and is not ISO/IEC 17024 accredited, so weigh the credential accordingly. See the registry policy.
